The trail was in excellent condition. The recent lack of rain, however, has clearly had an effect on the water level. We found the water lower than we had ever seen it in February (our fourth annual trip here). I'm guessing here, but I think the level must be 15 feet below the peak reported by Paul in his November hike here. Water still refreshing and lake monsters remained sleeping in the depths. It's a good one to do with the full family, especially if you're adventurous. I have 2 girls, ages 9 and 6, and they love the climb between the two falls. Note, however, that I have been asked to pay a small contribution to use the trails both this year and last by the gentleman who runs Spanny's Bar. I believe it was $5EC per adult, which is very reasonable. They do not charge for Dominican nationals. Love this hike. It’s a good one to do with the full family, especially if you’re adventurous. A really huge detour. ;-) But at least another new country on my list and not so much more expensive than the ferry. :-) We are looking forward to see the wonderful nature spots you described in your book. The high speed ferry operates daily at peak periods such as Christmas, Easter, carnival etc and usually every other day the rest of the year. People I know who visit Dominica either from or via France usually plan their trips so that they overnight in either Guadeloupe of Martinique and then take the ferry the next day.
